ResinTech Traffic Coating Systems

ResinTech Traffic Coating Systems are high-performance protective coating assemblies that protect concrete from traffic wear, abrasion, environmental exposure and water intrusion — for parking structures, drive aisles, ramps, walkways, balconies and podiums. The family is built on a simplified, performance-driven architecture: systems are defined by reinforcement level, material function and service conditions, not by thickness alone.

Designed to meet or exceed the applicable requirements of ASTM C957/C957M and CAN/CSA-S413-07 for parking structures when installed as specified. Available through Canopus Supply across Metro Vancouver and BC.

The Five System Materials

Every ResinTech traffic system is built from the same small, intuitive material set. Each plays one clear functional role:

Material Primary Function
FPU (FlexCoat-PU) Flexible crack-bridging base layer for movement accommodation and substrate-risk protection
CBE (Core Bond Epoxy) Reinforcement layer, broadcast binder and structural wear component — the standard reinforced epoxy
TUE (Transparent Universal Epoxy) Optional premium epoxy reinforcement / build layer — may be substituted for CBE
HPP (High-Performance Polyaspartic) Primary UV-stable traffic surface — the core ResinTech traffic chemistry
CRU (Chemical-Resistant Urethane) Premium protective finish coat — maximum abrasion, chemical and UV resistance
General build order: [ optional FPU flexible base ] → CBE / TUE reinforcement (with broadcast) → HPP UV-stable surface → [ optional CRU premium finish ]

System Selection at a Glance

System Use Typical Build
PTS Pedestrian — walkways, corridors, terraces, storage and utility areas ~10–15 mils DFT
PTS+ Pedestrian over occupied space — balconies, podium decks, rooftop terraces ~30–65 mils DFT
VTS-P Vehicular — parking stalls and low-stress areas ~15–20 mils DFT
VTS-D Vehicular — drive aisles and circulation paths ~15–25 mils DFT
EWS-S / Q / F Extreme wear — ramps, turning/braking zones, decorative reinforced areas (sand / quartz / flake) ~25–35 mils DFT
EWS-X Extreme duty — truck turning, loading/service docks, maximum-duty ramps (double broadcast + CRU) ~40–60 mils DFT
“+” suffix Any system, plus an FPU flexible crack-bridging base for movement-prone or over-occupied assemblies +20–50 mils (base)

VTS-P and VTS-D are the primary workhorses and the default recommendation for most parking stalls, drive aisles and general parking-deck conditions. Decorative media (quartz or flake) do not change a system’s structural classification.

Build Stacks

1. Pedestrian Traffic System (PTS)

Exterior walkways, service corridors, terraces and standard pedestrian areas. Slip resistance is achieved through broadcast aggregate (silica sand or quartz).

Layer Product Thickness Broadcast
Surface Coat CBE (indoor) / HPP (indoor & outdoor) 10–15 mils Sand or quartz, 0.1–0.2 lb/sf

1b. Balcony / Outdoor Configuration (PTS+)

The dedicated balcony / over-occupied-space configuration, adding the FPU flexible base for elongation, crack-bridging and movement accommodation. CRU may replace HPP where a premium urethane finish or slower workability is preferred.

Layer Product Thickness Broadcast
Base Membrane FPU 20–50 mils*
Surface Coat HPP / CRU 10–15 mils Sand, 0.1–0.2 lb/sf

*Standard base 20–25 mils; enhanced base 40–50 mils for balconies over living space and high-movement assemblies.

2. Vehicular Traffic System — Parking Stalls (VTS-P)

Layer Product Thickness Broadcast
Surface Coat CBE (indoor) / HPP (indoor & outdoor) 15–20 mils Sand, 0.2–0.3 lb/sf

3. Vehicular Traffic System — Drive Lanes (VTS-D)

A two-coat wear/topcoat structure for normal vehicular circulation and moderate-traffic areas.

Layer Product Thickness Broadcast
Wear Coat CBE / HPP 5–10 mils Sand, 0.2–0.3 lb/sf
Top Coat CBE / HPP 10–15 mils Sand, 0.1–0.2 lb/sf

Stack options: Epoxy (CBE + CBE) for protected low-UV interiors · Hybrid (CBE + HPP) — most common, durable and UV-stable · Polyaspartic (HPP + HPP) for fast-track rapid cure.

4. Extreme Wear System — Sand / Quartz / Flake (EWS-S / EWS-Q / EWS-F)

A fully broadcast reinforced epoxy layer below the HPP topcoat for higher-abrasion ramps, turning and braking zones. EWS-Q substitutes quartz, EWS-F substitutes decorative flake (the HPP seal can stay clear/semi-clear to show the flake).

Layer Product Thickness Broadcast
Reinforcement CBE / TUE 5–10 mils Sand / quartz / flake to rejection, 1.0–1.5 lb/sf
Top / Seal Coat HPP 20–25 mils Sand / quartz, 0.2–0.3 lb/sf (or none for flake seal)

Stack options: Hybrid (TUE + HPP) is the most common. Add the “+” FPU base (e.g. EWS-F+) where crack-bridging is required on new or movement-prone concrete.

5. Extreme Wear — Double Broadcast (EWS-X)

The highest-duty assembly: two fully reinforced epoxy broadcast layers, an HPP topcoat and a premium CRU protective finish. For extreme-duty ramps, severe turning, loading and service docks.

Layer Product Thickness Broadcast
Reinforcement #1 CBE / TUE 5–10 mils Full seed to rejection, 1.0–1.5 lb/sf
Reinforcement #2 CBE / TUE 10–15 mils Full seed to rejection, 1.0–1.5 lb/sf
Top Coat HPP 20–25 mils Sand or quartz, 0.2–0.3 lb/sf
Protective Coat CRU 5–10 mils Aluminum oxide, light broadcast
The “+” flexible base modifier: Any standard system can be specified with a “+” suffix by adding the FPU flexible crack-bridging base membrane beneath the standard build — standard 20–25 mils, or enhanced 40–50 mils for balconies, podiums, rooftop decks and other over-occupied or high-movement assemblies.

Optional Waterproofing Layer

Where a project calls for a bonded waterproofing layer within the assembly — for example podium decks, balconies, planters or parkade slabs over occupied space — ResinTech PPM (a single-component, moisture-cured elastomeric membrane: high elongation, crack-bridging, water-impermeable) can be specified as an intermediate waterproofing layer beneath the coating build. Keep the two flexible layers distinct by function: FPU is the flexible crack-bridging base that accommodates structural movement within a traffic system, while PPM is a bonded waterproofing membrane for water exclusion. A waterproofing layer is project-specific and not required in every assembly — confirm the need, product selection and detailing against the current ResinTech documentation and project specification.

Colour & Field Pigmentation

ResinTech CBE, TUE, HPP and CRU are supplied as clear resin systems and field-pigmented where a coloured finish is required — the designated colorant is added to Part A only and mixed to a uniform, streak-free colour before Part B is introduced. This gives unlimited colour flexibility, easier matching to surrounding construction, and consistent interior/exterior appearance. Standard ResinTech traffic colours are Light Gray, Medium Gray and Black; custom colours can be ordered in advance. Where a clear or semi-clear finish is intended (for example over decorative flake), the finish layer is left unpigmented.

Quality-Control Hold Points

Do not proceed unless:

  • substrate profile has been verified;
  • moisture condition has been verified;
  • coating thickness has been confirmed;
  • broadcast acceptance has been established where appearance or texture is critical;
  • recoat-window compliance has been confirmed;
  • a test patch / mock-up has been completed where conditions or finish expectations are uncertain.

Standards & Reference Test Methods

Designed to meet or exceed ASTM C957/C957M and CAN/CSA-S413-07 for parking structures when installed as specified. Reference methods include ASTM D4060 (abrasion), ASTM D412 / D638 / D2370 (tensile / elongation), ASTM D2240 (Shore hardness), ASTM D4541 / D7234 (adhesion / pull-off), ASTM F1869 / F2170 (concrete moisture) and ICRI 310.2R (surface profile).

Professional reference: Configurations shown are standard ResinTech recommendations. Alternative chemistries, thicknesses or finish media may be used where required by the design professional or project conditions. Decorative media do not change a system’s structural classification, and a waterproofing membrane is project-specific and not universally required. Always confirm the system, build and individual product details against the current ResinTech TDS, SDS and project specification before specifying or installing.
