ResinTech Extreme Wear System – Double Broadcast (3/16″)
High-build, heavy-duty epoxy/quartz or epoxy/sand flooring system
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The ResinTech Extreme Wear System – Double Broadcast (EWS-DB) is a high-build 3/16″ (≈187 mil) epoxy flooring system designed for maximum durability, abrasion resistance, chemical protection, and slip resistance.
It uses ResinTech TUE (Transparent Universal Epoxy) for the body coats and ResinTech HPP (High Performance Polyaspartic) as the combined grout and topcoat.
The double broadcast build allows either decorative quartz or solid-color 20/40 sand finishes.
Typical installations include parkades, loading docks, service bays, food & beverage plants, commercial kitchens, mechanical rooms, laboratories, healthcare facilities, and other high-traffic industrial/commercial areas.
ADVANTAGES
-
High-build 3/16″ double broadcast for maximum impact & wear resistance
-
Seamless and easy to clean, no grout lines or joints
-
Customizable finish: decorative quartz or solid-color sand
-
Excellent adhesion to properly prepared concrete (substrate failure in testing)
-
Chemical & stain resistance: fuels, oils, acids, alkalis, solvents, salts
-
Low odor & very low VOC (<2 g/L cured) for interior applications
-
Fast return to service with HPP topcoat (foot traffic ~3 hrs, heavy traffic 5–7 hrs)
SYSTEM BUILD (Approx. 3/16″ ≈ 187 mil)
| Layer | Product | Broadcast | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Coat | ResinTech TUE (25–30 mil) | #16 silica sand to refusal | ~53–64 ft²/gal |
| 2nd Coat | ResinTech TUE (25–30 mil) | Quartz or 20/40 silica sand to refusal | ~53–64 ft²/gal |
| 3rd Coat | ResinTech HPP (15–18 mil) | Clear over Quartz or Pigmented over sand | ~89–107 ft²/gal |
PERFORMANCE (CURED DRY FILM)
| Property | Test Method | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Abrasion Resistance | ASTM D4060 (CS-17, 1000 g, 1000 rev) | ~25 mg loss |
| Compressive Strength | ASTM D695 | ~13,000 psi |
| Flexural Strength | ASTM D790 | ~6,500 psi |
| Tensile Strength | ASTM D2370 | ~8,586 psi |
| Impact Resistance | ASTM D2794 / D3134 | Pass, 160 in·lb |
| Hardness | ASTM D2240 | Shore D 85–90 |
| Adhesion to Concrete | ASTM D4541 | Concrete fails (substrate breaks) |
| VOC Content | ASTM D3960 | <2 g/L (cured film) |
| Flammability | ASTM E648 | Class 1, self-extinguishing |
| Water Absorption | ASTM D543 | ~0.2% |
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
-
Concrete must be structurally sound, minimum 28-day cure, free of oils, waxes, curing compounds, coatings, laitance, and contaminants.
-
Surface profile: ICRI CSP 3–6 via diamond grinding or shot blasting.
-
Moisture testing: ASTM F1869 ≤3 lb/1000 ft²/24 h or ASTM F2170 ≤75% RH; slab pH 8.5–11.5.
-
Ambient conditions during install: 50–85°F (10–29°C), RH <80%, dew point ≥5°F below substrate.
-
Prime porous slabs with ResinTech TUE for uniform absorption.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
-
Mixing: Pre-mix TUE Part A, add colorant if desired, then mix with Part B using a low-speed drill for 2–3 minutes. Avoid air entrapment.
-
1st Coat: Apply TUE at 25–30 mil (53–64 ft²/gal). Back-roll for uniformity. Broadcast #16 silica sand to refusal. Allow to cure and sweep/vacuum excess.
-
2nd Coat: Apply TUE at 25–30 mil. Broadcast Quartz (for decorative) or 20/40 sand (for solid color) to refusal. Remove excess after cure.
-
3rd Coat (Grout & Top): Apply HPP at 15–18 mil (89–107 ft²/gal). Use clear HPP over decorative quartz or pigmented HPP for solid color sand finish.
CURE SCHEDULE (@72°F / 22°C, 50% RH)
-
TUE: Pot life ~35 min • Working ~45 min • Tack-free 12–14 h • Recoat 4–24 h
-
HPP: Pot life 15–20 min • Tack-free 2–3 h • Recoat 0.5–1 h
-
Foot traffic: TUE 14–18 h / HPP ~3 h
-
Heavy traffic: TUE ~36 h / HPP 5–7 h
-
Full cure: TUE 6–7 days • HPP ~5 days
SLIP RESISTANCE
Use angular quartz or 20/40 sand in the broadcast layers to achieve slip resistance in wet or oily service conditions. Adjust topcoat gloss and texture to meet project-specific COF (coefficient of friction) requirements.
MAINTENANCE
-
Wait 7 days before aggressive cleaning or chemical exposure.
-
Clean routinely with neutral pH cleaners; avoid abrasive pads.
-
Repair localized damage promptly to maintain performance and protect substrate.
LIMITATIONS
-
Not for use over uncured (“green”) concrete or contaminated slabs.
-
Do not install if ambient temperature/humidity is outside recommended limits.
-
Protect from water/condensation during cure.
-
User is responsible for testing compatibility over existing coatings or substrates.
WARRANTY
ResinTech warrants product to be free of manufacturing defects. Liability limited to product replacement; no consequential damages.
System performance depends on proper surface prep and application by qualified installers.
