Achieve a Durable Finish with ResinTech’s Extreme Wear System

This is a technical reference for flooring contractors, concrete coating installers and industrial facility managers specifying ResinTech’s Extreme Wear System (EWS) in high-traffic commercial and industrial environments such as commercial kitchens, automotive service bays and educational facilities.

What is ResinTech’s Extreme Wear System (EWS)?

ResinTech EWS is a 1/16” (60 MIL ave.) single-broadcast epoxy system. It uses ResinTech’s Transparent Universal Epoxy (TUE) as the base coat; a High-Performance Polyaspartic (HPP) alternative is available where shorter cure times are required. The system can be finished in a range of textures, from smooth to heavily textured. Confirm build, coverage and cure schedule against the manufacturer’s current TDS.

Characteristics (confirm against the manufacturer’s TDS)

1. Abrasion resistance: Formulated for durability under heavy traffic in commercial kitchens, automotive bays and educational environments.

2. Seamless and decorative: Provides a seamless finish available in clear and standard industrial colours.

3. Chemical resistance: Provides resistance to many acids, bases, fuels, solvents and alcohols. Confirm specific chemical resistance against the TDS.

4. Cleanability: The seamless surface supports cleaning in areas with hygiene requirements such as food and beverage processing and laboratories.

5. Return to service: Cure and return-to-service times depend on the selected base resin (TUE or HPP), temperature and film thickness; confirm against the TDS.

Typical Installation Sequence

  1. Surface preparation: Achieve a Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) of 3 to 6 using diamond grinding or steel shot blasting to support long-term adhesion. Confirm the required CSP against the manufacturer’s TDS.

  2. Priming: Apply ResinTech’s TUE primer on absorbent substrates to support bond between substrate and system.

  3. Base/seed coat: Mix the epoxy components thoroughly and apply with a V-notched squeegee. Broadcast sand, flakes or quartz into the wet epoxy to the point of rejection.

  4. Grout coat: Once the base coat is set, apply a grout coat of TUE or HPP to seal and smooth the broadcast layer.

  5. Optional topcoat: Additional topcoats may be applied to achieve the required finish and texture.
