Vulkem 360NF Base Coat - Low VOC, water-cured, rapid setting urethane membrane
Tremco Vulkem® 360NF Base Coat
Low-VOC, Water-Cured, Rapid-Setting Urethane Waterproofing Membrane | Brand: Tremco
Tremco Vulkem® 360NF is a single-component, moisture-curing, rapid-setting urethane membrane formulated as the base coat in Tremco’s Vulkem traffic deck waterproofing system. Its low-VOC, solvent-free formulation makes it suitable for use in enclosed parkades and occupied structures, while its rapid cure allows the system to return to service faster than conventional urethane membranes. Designed for professional waterproofing contractors working on vehicular and pedestrian traffic deck applications.
Product Description
Vulkem 360NF cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture to form a tough, seamless, fully-adhered elastomeric membrane. Its NF (No Flash) designation indicates a low-VOC, non-flammable formulation — a significant advantage in enclosed parkades and occupied buildings where solvent-based products present ventilation and fire safety challenges.
The rapid-setting formulation reduces the time between base coat application and topcoat installation, helping to compress the overall project schedule. Once cured, Vulkem 360NF provides a flexible, crack-bridging base that accommodates minor substrate movement and thermal cycling, forming the waterproofing layer of the Vulkem traffic deck assembly.
Key Benefits
- Low-VOC, non-flammable (NF) — suitable for enclosed parkades and occupied structures with appropriate ventilation; no solvent flash hazard.
- Rapid-setting — faster cure than conventional urethane membranes, reducing time between base coat and topcoat application.
- Single-component, moisture-curing — no mixing required; ready to apply directly from the pail.
- Seamless, fully-adhered membrane — eliminates laps and seams that can be points of failure.
- Crack-bridging elastomeric performance — accommodates minor substrate movement and thermal cycling.
- Tremco system compatible — engineered for use with Vulkem 191 QD Primer and Vulkem 951NF topcoat as part of a complete warranted traffic deck assembly.
Typical Applications
- Base coat membrane in Vulkem vehicular traffic deck waterproofing systems
- Base coat membrane in Vulkem pedestrian traffic deck waterproofing systems
- Parkade and parking structure deck waterproofing
- Podium deck and plaza deck waterproofing base coat
- Ramp and drive aisle waterproofing base coat

Surface Preparation
Concrete must be structurally sound, clean, and free of laitance, oil, grease, curing compounds, and form release agents. Mechanically profile the surface to the required CSP. Fill surface voids, honeycombs, and bug holes with a compatible patching mortar. Apply Vulkem 191 QD Primer (or approved Tremco primer) at the specified coverage rate and allow to dry before applying Vulkem 360NF. Refer to the current Tremco system specification for full substrate preparation requirements.
Application Instructions
- Substrate preparation: Prepare the concrete as described above. Apply approved primer and allow to dry.
- Detail work: Apply membrane to all coves, inside and outside corners, pipe penetrations, and construction joints before field application. Embed reinforcing fabric at all details as specified.
- Field application: Apply Vulkem 360NF by squeegee and back-roll at the specified wet film thickness. Ensure uniform coverage with no holidays or thin spots.
- Cure: Allow to cure to the specified state before applying the topcoat. Cure time is temperature and humidity dependent — refer to the current product data sheet.
- Topcoat: Apply Vulkem 951NF (or approved topcoat) within the specified recoat window.
Limitations
- Must be used as part of an approved Tremco Vulkem traffic deck system — not a standalone waterproofing membrane.
- Do not apply to substrates with active water leaks or running water.
- Do not apply below 5°C or when rain or condensation is expected before cure.
- Do not exceed the maximum recoat window without re-priming the surface.
- Pot life and cure time are temperature and humidity dependent.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store in original, unopened pails in a cool, dry, ventilated area at 5–30°C, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Do not freeze. Follow the manufacturer’s stated shelf life on the product label.
Health & Safety
Read the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Contains isocyanate prepolymers; may cause skin and respiratory sensitization. Wear gloves, eye protection, and ensure adequate ventilation during application. Refer to the SDS for full hazard classification and first-aid measures.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "NF" mean in Vulkem 360NF?
NF stands for No Flash — indicating a low-VOC, non-flammable formulation. This makes Vulkem 360NF suitable for use in enclosed parkades and occupied structures where solvent-based products present ventilation and fire safety challenges.
What primer is required before Vulkem 360NF?
Vulkem 191 QD Primer is the standard primer for the Vulkem traffic deck system. Apply at the specified coverage rate and allow to dry before applying the base coat. Confirm primer requirements with the current Tremco system specification.
What topcoat is used over Vulkem 360NF?
Vulkem 951NF is the standard topcoat (wearing course) applied over Vulkem 360NF in the Vulkem traffic deck system. Apply within the specified recoat window. Contact Canopus Supply for the complete Vulkem system specification.
How fast does it cure?
Vulkem 360NF is a rapid-setting formulation. Cure time is temperature and humidity dependent — refer to the current Tremco Product Data Sheet for specific cure times at different conditions.
